THE BENEFITS OF ONLINE PIANO LESSONS

ARE ONLINE PIANO LESSONS EFFECTIVE?

I have been offering online piano lessons for almost 9 years now and I firmly believe that online piano lessons are as effective and even more convenient than face-to-face lessons.

Despite moving abroad, the students I used to teach face-to-face in the UK continue to achieve outstanding results, despite now having lessons online. In fact, the majority of them are doing even better!

HERE ARE SOME OF THE ADVANTAGES

2 Pianos Available

One significant advantage of having piano lessons online is the accessibility of two pianos. Having separate instruments for the teacher and student simplifies the demonstration process and provides a more visual representation of piano-playing techniques. This aspect of virtual learning also contributes to a more streamlined and efficient learning process.

There is no need to travel

Online piano lessons offer a convenient solution for busy students who face the challenge of rush-hour traffic. By having piano lessons online, students can avoid the stress of commuting and instead focus on preparing for their class. The time saved on travel can be used to their advantage, allowing them to warm up before the lesson.

Younger family members don’t need to attend the lesson

In today’s fast-paced world, it is common for parents to lead busy lives while juggling their children’s schedules filled with various extracurricular activities, including sports, dance, acting, and music lessons. Sometimes, younger siblings may also need to attend such activities due to a lack of childcare options. This may lead to frustration for siblings who end up waiting in the car, resulting in lost after-school time.

With online piano lessons, family members can continue their daily routine without worrying about picking up their children after the class. Online piano lessons provide flexibility and convenience, ensuring everyone can maximise their time.

Are online piano lessons effective?

You can play your own instrument

As you advance in your piano studies, adapting to different pianos in various settings is essential. However, this can be a challenging obstacle for novice or less confident musicians. By playing your own piano, you can enjoy improved progress and greater exploration of your instrument’s capabilities.

Practise straight after the lesson

As a former piano student, I understand the importance of effectively retaining information after a lesson. Online piano lessons give students the convenience of practising immediately after the class. By doing so, concepts are still fresh in their mind, and energy levels are high, leading to a more productive and efficient practice session.

By learning online, you can eliminate the distractions of travelling home and allow for valuable practice time often lost in traditional settings. It is crucial to take advantage of this first practice session to set the tone for a successful week of study. By practising straight after the lesson, students can remember essential concepts, which creates more opportunities for improvement.

You can still have a lesson even if you feel a little under the weather

Online piano lessons provide the benefit of continued learning even if you are feeling unwell. Illnesses are often why in-person classes get cancelled for fear of spreading it among tutors or classmates. However, remote learning eliminates this issue.

Furthermore, online classes are particularly beneficial to students with disabilities or other circumstances preventing them from leaving their homes. These advantages were especially relevant during the Covid-19 pandemic, highlighting the importance of access to quality music instruction that can be conveniently accessed from anywhere.
